Los Angeles DUI Laws

By Kevin Stith DUI (driving under the influence) laws vary from state to state. The alarming rise in the number of accidents as a result of driving under the influence is alarming and needs to be curbed. According to a recent survey, most road accidents are caused by rash driving or driving while intoxicated (DWI). Offenders make driving dangerous, not only for themselves, but for anyone on the road. To deal with this situation, strict laws and rules are enforce all over the world, and California is no exception. In California, a first time offender may be let off with a fine. Depending on the severity of the accident, the offender’s license could also be suspended, and he could face probation for up to three years. It is mandatory for all offenders to attend a DUI education course. The most common criteria for deciding the fine, penalty and charge is the alcohol blood level of the offender. The blood alcohol content is measured by using a blood sample or breath test. In Los Angeles, it is unlawful for any person who has a blood alcohol level of 0.08 percent or more to drive a vehicle. United State’s law dictates that it is a legal offense if a person drives any vehicle under the influence of any drug, including alcohol. Similarly, it is crime if a person who has a blood alcohol level of 0.08% is caught driving a vehicle. It needs to be pointed out that is unlawful to have an excessive blood-alcohol concentration while driving and not when tested. This is because it takes between 30 minutes to three hours for the alcohol to be absorbed in the system. The concentration can continue to rise for some time after the offender is arrested. What’s Up With Unconditional Love?

By Samantha Stevens To tell you the truth, I’m a little disillusioned with the term unconditional love, lately. It’s just not “natural”. The phrase has been used for decades, by psychologists, therapists, A.A. types and the overall spiritually minded to describe how one should cope with impossible behavior.” The original principle behind the concept, was to help the person who is being abused accept the circumstances and not have to live in a perpetual state of resentment towards their partner. You, as the codependent (ie the one who is always hurt) is supposed to see your partner as “sick” and not blame him or her for their actions. You’re supposed to love and care for the adulterer, batterer, gambler, manic depressive or alcoholic the same way you would someone who has the flu. Husband comes home drunk? Sober him up with cups of black coffee and a dose of your eternally burning, unconditional love. Boyfriend unfaithful? That’s O.k., because you have unconditional love for him that will last for an eternity. Girlfriends rack up your credit cards again with her compulsive shopping? You’ll take care of the bills because you’re love for her is undying and unconditional and you’ve told yourself “”I’ll always love her no matter what ….” Those of us who have been there know that we can only comfort ourselves with the concept of unconditional love for so long until the relationship becomes too expensive, emotionally, socially and financially. This is often more serious then the kind of consequences we pay when someone is sick with “the flu.” Plus lately, after talking to many clients, many of whom are still paying in one way or another for the irresponsible behavior of a full grown adult, I am starting to conclude that when the person with the “ism” or “recently diagnosed personality disorder” is on to us then out comes the term unconditional love. If we say no or object to the behavior, he or she can always turn around and go “but I thought you said your love was me was unconditional!!!” This puts us on the defense because it implies that we are the ones who are unloving and unlovable. I think the appropriate response is “well then why don’t you go out and find someone who will agree to co-sign your B.S.!!’” If they’re A.A. trained they’ll probably snap back with “that’s what you get for having expectations or preferences of me…you know I’m sick!” I think love is conditional. One of those conditions is “trust.” If you have unconditional love for someone, it is implicit you don’t trust them, especially if you’ve condemned yourself to a lifetime of loving him or her “no matter what.” Love is a natural thing, like a flower, that one should expect to bloom and its o.k. to be disappointed if it doesn’t. The nature of love is to grow, compound and multiply and not destroy. The next time you fall in love, put terms and conditions on it and demand a 200% return on your investment. It’s your precious energy! Samantha Steven’s articles have been published in many high-standing newspapers and she has published several books. How To Plan Your Wedding Ceremony Music

By Rose Smith Not all songs are created equal. The type of wedding ceremony music that you choose will be quite different from the wedding reception music. There is also the consideration on the type of wedding you will be having – whether it is a traditional religious ceremony or a less formal occasion, such as a garden wedding or beach wedding. In this article, we are going to be looking at music choices that would fit into a more formal and religious atmosphere. What Type Of Music Is Needed For Each Segment In a traditional ceremony arrangement, low-key instrumental music is usually played and begins about a half hour before the ceremony begins. This is called the Prelude. Most times, if you don’t have any real choices in songs, the organist will play the typical wedding selections that other bride’s and groom’s have used. If you wish to pick your own Prelude songs, a few of the more popular choices are: * Canon in D by Pachelbel * Air From Water Music by Handel * Ave Maria by Bach * Greensleeves by David Chamberlain * Waltz (from Sleeping Beauty) by Tchaikovsky * We’ve Only Just Begun by The Carpenters * Tonight I Celebrate My Love (For You) by Peabo Bryson & Roberta Flack * Breathless by Kenny G You will then need to choose what music you would prefer for your Processional (as you walk down the aisle). Some brides will elect to have traditional instrumental music such as Canon in D, Ave Maria, and of course the tune that everyone knows: The Wedding March (Here Comes The Bride). However, more and more of today’s brides are chosing tunes from popular song artists. Here is a short list of Processional songs that tend to be favorites: * Power Of Love by Celine Dion * What A Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong and Kenny G * Endless Love by Lionel Ritchie and Diana Ross * Grow Old With Me by Mary Chapin Carpenter * Look At You Girl by Chris Ledoux * From This Moment On by Shania Twain * Because you Loved me by Celine Dion * Only Time by Enya * This I Swear by Nick Lachey * Nadia’s Theme by Barry De Vorzon and Perry Botkin, Jr. During the ceremony itself, there will be breaks when you will need to provide solos, hymns or instrumental music, such as when you are signing the register. Some common pieces sung by soloists are: * Wedding (There Is Love) by Stookey * Ave Maria by Schubert * Evergreen by Barbra Streisand * One Hand, One Heart (West Side Story) by Bernstein and Sondheim * Sunrise, Sunset (Fiddler on the Roof) by Harnick and Bock * Ode to Joy by Bethoven Finally the ceremony ends and the bride and groom turn to leave to the sounds of the Recessional. Here you will want a vibrant, joyous song or instrumental to play. You may choose from classical music or the more popular pop songs of today. A few examples are: * Wedding March from a Midsummer Night’s Dream by Mendelssohn * Overture from The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart * Bridal March by Hollins * Ode to Joy by Beethoven * Nothings Going To Stop Us Now by Jefferson Starship * Beautiful Day by U2 * Walking On Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves * Forever and Ever, Amen by Randy Travis Tips For Planning Your Music Selections Before you select any music, soloists or instrumentalists, you will need to get the answers to certain questions as follows: 1) Speak with your clergy member to find out if the religious venue you are considering provides an organist and/or choir. What other types of musicians are allowed and can he/she recommend anyone? Are other types of musicians allowed such as a harpist, flutist, guitarist, etc.? Can he/she recommend any soloists? 2) You will also need to determine if there are any restrictions on the types of songs and music played during the ceremony. In a very strict, religious church, you may be prohibited from playing any non-religious songs. 3) If the church or synagogue provides an organist or other instrumentalist, what is the fee that is charged for using them? What if you wish to use a friend or a particular organist rather than the one provided, are you allowed to substitute? 4) Determine what type of mood you want for your ceremony. Some couples want a more serious, solemn service, while other couples want a fun-filled, vibrant atmosphere. This will help you in your selection of wedding music, as well as deteriming the best soloist and musicians to hire. 5) If you have any friends or family members that are gifted musicians, you may want to consider asking them to provide the songs and music. It will provide an added personal touch to your ceremony. Be sure to thank them by presenting them with a small gift. In some cases, you may need to hire them just as you would any other professional musician, but it is usually much less expensive to do so. 6) Once you determine what music and songs you will be using, make sure all soloists and musicians have a copy of the music list along with when they are to be sung/played. If any of the songs or music are new to your performers, make sure you provide sheet music and give it to them early so they can prepare. 7) Purchase tapes and CD’s of wedding music to listen to. This will help make your choices much easier. As you can see, there are quite a few details to resolve when planning out your wedding ceremony music. The above song suggestions are the ones more traditionally chosen. However, there are alway new popular songs by song artists that can also be wonderful choices for a wedding ceremony. Keep your ears open for them. Hopefully, the above guidelines should give you a good start toward picking the perfect music that will personalize your own wedding. Copyright 2006. Butterflies In The Bedroom

By Peter Legrove Kids and nature. Kids seem to love most things that nature throws at them. And that includes little bugs running around the house and flying in the windows. When I was a kid I loved nature. And butterflies were part of that love. Along with my sisters and brother we caught caterpillars. Put them in a box to watch them hatch into butterflies. Our favorites were the Monarch butterflies as they were the most beautiful. Back in those days, when I was a kid, we had to actually go out and look for caterpillars and butterflies, the pet shops never stocked them. Now the modern generation have it so easy, they can buy them on the internet and the postman delivers them. None of this walking around the park looking for the trees the butterflies like so you can get the caterpillars. Also we had our butterflies in a shoebox with a few holes in the lid and sides to give them some air. Now you can buy a readymade butterfly enclosure like a big butterfly net that keeps your butterflies safe and sound. The internet has changed life as we know it. But kids are still the same, they are still fascinated by what nature can do. And nothing is more fascinating that watching a caterpillar turn into a butterfly. On the market there are two main butterfly habitats, both made by the same company Insect Lore. The best habitat and also the most expensive is the Butterfly Pavilion. Here you order10 caterpillars and the company guarantees six to be perfect specimens. Most customers got all 10 alive through the post therefore ending up with 10 butterflies. The pavilion is around 2 foot high so it is quite large and you can either hang it up or put it on a table or the floor. It is made from quite heavy see through cloth mesh. It is actually an amazingly simple design, wire support in a cylinder shape so it can either hang up or stand up, and it is complete with zippered entry so you can get in and out. You also receive a very informative booklet that contains lots of butterfly facts. As well as instructions on how to put it all together and how to keep your caterpillars and butterflies alive. First you buy the butterfly pavilion then you have to order the caterpillars. The caterpillars are pretty hardy so most survive the trip by US mail. They come in two cups complete with food. Read the instructions before opening these cups. The caterpillars are supposed to stay in the cups so they can turn into chrysalides by hanging from the top of the cup. Everything is supplied but you have to supply your own sugar water, which somehow manages to drip all over the place and cause a mess. But people being people they love to add food so most drop in apple slices or run around outside looking for leaves to feed the caterpillars which grow amazing fast. After you receive the caterpillars they take about a week to grow big enough to pupate into chrysalis. Then the waiting game starts again while you wait for the butterflies to hatch. That takes about a week to 10 days. You now have a pavilion full of butterflies. The instructions recommend you let them go free as long as the weather is over 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Because of this weather thing some people have kept their butterflies and have ended up with 2 or 3 generations in the one pavilion. So you can keep using the pavilion but you have to find your own food. It is amazing what people can dream up nowadays. In my day were messing around with shoeboxes and it never occurred to anybody to make up a little butterfly cage like what you can buy nowadays. Nature has come a long way since I was a kid. Insect Lore also bring out a smaller version called the Butterfly Garden which is about half the size of the Pavilion and comes with only six caterpillars. Everything else is basically the same right down to the instruction manual. Nature will always fascinate children so it is these little educational toys that can make a difference in how we bring up our children and how much they will learn. As the cities have gotten bigger nature usually comes to us on the TV but these new generation nature toys are a welcome addition to our homes. Creating A Realistic Business Budget

By Ramona Creel Budgeting — ooh, what a scary word! If you want to frighten someone whose business finances are out of control, suggest that they tally up their expenses on a piece of paper. We all understand the value of such an exercise, but when it comes to the practicality of putting a budget together, we get cold feet. Budgeting doesn’t have to be so painful, when you have a systematic series of steps to follow. SET YOUR FINANCIAL GOALS As with any other area of your life, it’s pointless to start down a financial path for your company if you don’t you have some idea of where you want to end up. What is your REASON for creating a budget? Do you want to pay off your business debts? Make sure you aren’t wasting money on unproductive marketing efforts and other unnecessary expenses? Actually develop a cash reserve for running your company? Make a list of your financial goals for the next 6 months, year, 5 years, 10, 25 — all the way through to retirement from your business. And don’t spend a lot of time worrying about FEASIBILITY — if your goal is to be debt free in a year, don’t think about all of the reasons why you won’t be able to make it by that deadline. Just remember, where there’s a will, there’s a way! CREATE THE SHEET Start with either a sheet of legal paper — or a spreadsheet program — and create 12 columns. Label the top of each column with a MONTH of the year, from January to December (duh!) Each row on your sheet will represent a different business expense — office supplies, networking lunches, printing, postage, advertising, etc. You’ll have better luck remembering everything that you spend money on if you think according to CATEGORIES. “Marketing” would include business cards, brochures, your web site, and belonging to the Chamber of Commerce — while “home office expense” might be divided into utilities, furniture, equipment, and extra property insurance. TRACK YOUR EXPENSES How can you know what steps you need to take to reach your goal until you know exactly where you are right now? Most of us don’t have a clue where our money goes — credit cards and ATM’s make it easy for money to just slip through our fingers. And it’s even easier to spend indiscriminately when you are able to justify expenses as a “tax deduction” — without asking if they are even necessary! The first step is to create a list of STATIC EXPENSES — things that cost the same amount every month, like rent on your office (or the portion of your household mortgage you count for your business), the monthly dues at your networking group, internet access, and your business loan payments. Now these expenses are not completely “static” in the strictest sense of the word. You can reduce your rent by finding a less expensive office arrangement — and you could increase your loan payments to get rid of the debt faster. But for now, just itemize your regular monthly costs. Next, you want to evaluate your VARIABLE EXPENSES — those costs that fluctuate from month to month. Office supplies, utilities, marketing expenses, and professional development all fall into this category. The great thing about variable expenses is that you control (at least to a certain extent) how much of your budget these items eat up. But some of these costs come in large and unexpected chunks — like the purchase of a new computer or attending a big annual conference. So you might need to go through your last 12 months’ credit card and bank statements to get a clear idea of how much daily life costs you. And don’t forget about those expenses that are paid only intermittently — like insurance. Tally each expense and divide the total by 12, to give you a clearer idea of how your costs spread out over a year’s time. ROOT OUT MONEY LEAKS Now I guarantee that you will not remember every expense, no matter how hard you strain your brain! Think about all of the things that you buy throughout your week with business dollars, without really paying ATTENTION — dinner out with a colleague before your professional association meeting, a coke at Office Depot as you a picking up some supplies, treating yourself to a more expensive hotel than you could normally afford on that business trip, just because the company is paying for it. And don’t forget about the expenses you are racking up because of financial DISORGANIZATION — interest charges on your credit card debt, late fees because you forgot to pay your insurance bill on time, overdraft charges because you didn’t balance your checkbook. All of these fall into the category of UNCONSCIOUS spending. You just do it because it’s a habit. And although you think that a dollar here or fifty cents there is insignificant, it can really add up. So for a month, record every PENNY that leaves your hand, in the form of a check or cash or a credit card transaction. This may sound like a huge challenge, but you can do it! Make it convenient — stick a small pencil and notepad in your planner or designate a spot in your Palm to remind you to make a note every time you make a purchase. You will be stunned when you see where your money is really going! A friend of mine was shocked to see that she spends over $200 a month eating out between client appointments — because she didn’t get up early enough to make lunch before she left the house. What’s your vice –making so many cell phone calls that you consistently go over your minutes and get hit with big charges? Buying the latest, sexiest, newest piece of technology that comes out — even when your current gadgets would suffice? Subscribing to too many business magazines you never get around to reading? I’m not suggesting that you completely eliminate these habits — just that you decide how often you can reasonably AFFORD to indulge and still reach your other financial goals. DON’T FORGET YOUR DEBTS It’s also important that you have some idea of your liabilities — debts that still have to be repaid. Did you figure these payments in with your monthly expenses? If you are only counting the MINIMUM monthly payment, you will never pay your debts off. You may not be able to do it right now — but after we get your budget in order, the goal is to pay at least DOUBLE the minimum amount on at least one of your liabilities each month. You should start with the credit card or loan that has the highest interest rate — then tackle the next highest after the first debt is paid off. And if you can afford to pay more than double, go for it. Don’t be lulled into a false sense of security by thinking, “Oh, it’s just business debt.” It’s still debt, you are still paying ridiculously more than you should in interest, and it is still a drain on your company’s finances. You aren’t really free to start working on other financial goals until you know you are debt free. TALLY UP YOUR INCOME Do you really know how much you make? The tendency is to quote your HOURLY RATE — it sounds pretty impressive to say, “I make $60 an hour.” But after taxes and Social Security and any other items that are deducted from your check, what are you actually bringing home? And then consider all of the hours you put into running your business that aren’t BILLABLE — time spent marketing and handling administrative duties and driving back and attending professional meetings. That takes away from your overall hourly rate. Take a minute to really examine all of your sources of income and calculate an honest total — you can’t have a realistic budget without it! WHAT’S THE VERDICT? So, comparing income to expenses, how does it look? If you came out in the black, congratulations! How much do you have left over? Regardless of how small or large the amount is, start stashing it away – either as a CUSHION against potential rough times in the future, a RESERVE for large purchases you don’t want to have to finance. Or, begin to develop a plan for INVESTING it in your company — in equipment, training, marketing, staff, or whatever you need to move to the next level. Your choice of how to proceed will depend on your financial goals — launching a publicity campaign will require more liquidity than simply putting money away for a rainy day. The main thing to remember is that you should build your savings and investments into your budget just like a bill — and take care of these long-term responsibilities FIRST, before other costs. That’s the secret to good financial management. Now, if you ended up in the red, we need to talk. The first step is to look at spending which can be REDUCED or even eliminated. Start by examining those “spending leaks” — if they give you pleasure and satisfaction, dandy. Certainly late fees and interest charges don’t fall into this category! But you can still overdo a good thing. Ask yourself if eating out with clients and colleagues 4 times a week gives you 4 times more benefit than doing it just once. I s the ridiculous rent on that storefront office worth it? Or could you be just as happy (or even happier with less financial stress) working from home? Also look for convenience expenses — things that we spend money on because we are overwhelmed, too busy, or just worn out. Perhaps by re-evaluating how you use your time, you might discover that many of these expenses are just symptoms of misplaced priorities. When you arrive at a place where all of your spending decisions are DELIBERATE ones, you will find yourself several steps and quite a few dollars closer to a balanced budget that allows you to reach all of your financial goals. Friends More Than Family May Help You Live Longer

By Brenda Skidmore There is no denying that an optimistic mental attitude towards life, together with social interaction, has been found to positively affect your physical and mental health. Individuals with a strong network of friends and confidants live healthier and longer lives. The beneficial effects of friends on your physical and mental health, and longevity seem to help carry us through tough times such as personal losses due the death of a spouse, child or parent, the relocation of close friends moving far away, or a child leaving to go to college or join the armed forces. Although it is not fully understood why friends more than family seem to help us live healthier and longer lives, it is theorized that friends seem to encourage us to engage in more healthy and positive behaviors like not over eating, making better diet choices, not smoking or drinking to much. Friends more than family seem to boost our self-esteem and are less critical of our emotional upheavals. As for the lack of physical and mental health or longevity within familial relationships, it has been suggested that it may be because there is a tendency in some people to rely to heavily on family members when their physical health has begun to fail. Love is the strongest emotion that we can possibly feel and whether it comes from friends, family, or somewhere else, it is one of your greatest health and longevity tools. The fact that friends more than family may help you to lead a healthier and longer life may suggest that family or intimate relationships are not always the centers of love that we want and wish them to be. Close friends however, may be better for us because they are portals of love outside of the bickerings, resentments, and subtle abuses that occur all to often within families. It is highly possible to improve your physical health by losing and maintaining a normal body weight, adopt healthier eating and drinking habits that will help you avoid premature aging and disease. This will dramatically increase energy levels and moods, and thus improve your ability to succeed in having healthier relationships. You will be a more caring, loving nurturing beacon of light to attract more positive relationships to you. The advantages of healthy, loving, and nurturing relationships on your physical and mental health are well understood, but unhealthy ones should not be given excuses to make you unhealthy. An unhealthy personal relationship be it with a friend, family member, child, or spouse that involves any form of abuse such as verbal or emotional, physical, sexual, substance abuse or addictions affects your general overall well-being. Not only is it unacceptable, it clearly should not be allowed to continue. Unless the person who is doing the abusing wants to change their behavior and get help to end this negative cycle, then letting go and leaving the relationship may be your best or only choice. The decision process can be a long time coming and very difficult and unique to you Chances are you already know what you need to do. When you do choose to take that next step towards your physical and mental happiness, remember it’s about moving yourself forward and not letting yourself be used as someone else’s door mat. Leave the problem with them and do not own any part of it with them any longer. It could very well be the last critical step you need to take in achieving total well-being. Brenda Skidmore has spent the last three years researching natural health care alternatives. She can attest to the many benefits of natural practical cures and preventive strategies for human health. Unsecured Loan – Helping You Get All You Desire

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Maria_Smith]Maria Smith You have been delaying your holiday plan or plan to buy your dream car just because you dont have the funds to finance it. What will you do now? Keep on postponing your plans or look for a better option. Definitely, you will look for a better option and that could be taking an Unsecured Loan. You can borrow any amount from 1,000 to 25,000, depending upon how much you need. target=_new [http://www.loansfiesta.co.uk/unsecured_loans.html]Unsecured loans is a personal loan that does not require you to offer any security against the loan. Personal loans are the loans that help in fulfilling the personal needs of individuals. Personal Loans are of two types secured loans and unsecured loans. Now a question will definitely arise in your mind that why I suggest you to take an unsecured loan and not a secured one. There is a reason behind this, to get a secured loan you need to put your property as a security against the loan. If you fail to pay the monthly payments on time, you will be accessed late fees and in case you fail to repay the loan amount and the interest your property will be taken by the lender. Top 7 Business Card Do’s and Don’ts

By Shari Hearn A business card is the calling card for your business, so it’s important to make your business card is one people will hold onto and not throw away. Want to make sure your business card is not in the discard pile? Here are seven do’s and don’ts which will get your business card into the right hands and noticed. 1. Don’t Cheap Out Yes, you can get business cards for free. VistaPrint.com will give you 250 business cards for free. But, you have the word “free” on the backside of the card which tells everyone you can’t afford proper business cards. It doesn’t cost much extra at VistaPrint to get the word “free” taken off the back of the card. Do it. And, if you’re printing your own business cards make sure the card stock is heavyweight card stock. There’s also nothing that says cheap like flimsy card stock. 2. Keep it Simple Don’t use too many different fonts or include too much information on the card. Be sure to include all the vital information on the card, such as name, phone number and address, and perhaps a main slogan for your business, but steer clear of listing everything under the sun your business can do. Make sure it’s clear by quickly glancing at the card what your company’s main focus is. 3. Use a Font Large Enough to Read Use fonts that are large enough for people of all ages to read. If you’re 28 and can read it just fine, let someone who’s over 40 read it. If they have difficulty reading the type, make it larger. You don’t want to lose any business due to a card that someone has to use reading glasses to read. 4. Use a Larger Font for the Most Important Information If the desired action is for them to give you a call, highlight the phone number with a larger font. If it’s the address, highlight the address. Don’t make them have to hunt for the most important information on the card. 5. Include your Website Address and E-mail Address If you don’t have a website address, it’s time to get one. People now are used to checking businesses out on the internet. A five-page website won’t cost much, but can be the difference between gaining a new client or not. 6. Never Use Cards with Outdated Information Have you ever received a business card with a phone number crossed out in black marker with another phone number written in ink next to it? All that says is “I’m too cheap to buy new cards.” And that implies a business that isn’t getting much business. 7. When handing your business card to someone, make sure there’s an offer on the back of the card, and hand the card to the person with the backside up so the person will see your offer. This can be 10% off your services, a free consultation, or whatever offer you think is appropriate. Give someone a reason to call you. Business cards can be one of the most important marketing tools you have. Give it the attention it deserves and you may be richly rewarded.
